Wideaware at the M.O.D.
4 September 2007
In August this year Wideaware provided Disability Equality Training and Deaf Awareness Training to the FastStream Department at the
Ministry of Defence, in Whitehall, London.
The FastStream Department are in charge of enabling talented trainees recruited by the MoD get the most of their work experience by making sure they work with as many projects possible.
Their latest recruit, a talented profoundly deaf student was due to join the department soon and the entire staff of the FastStream Department decided to undergo training to be better prepared for the student’s arrival and welcome her in their team.
Maria, Wideaware’s Director of Training, joined them for a day of training that turned out to be very enriching, practical and which provided the staff with the confidence to deal with any possible concerns of issues around the student’s disability and her integration in the workplace.
Director Jim Butcher and his team at FastStream gave Maria and Wideaware’s Training a glowing review and they are recommending us strongly for more training.
Maria said: ‘Rarely I’ve had the privilege to work with such a great group of participants: they asked a ton of questions, they were very interested, they genuinely wanted to know more about disability. I’ve learned so much myself by working with them, I sincerely hope there will soon be other opportunities to work at the Ministry of Defence’.
